EducationNorthwestern University (Physics & Theatre)
My name is Michael, and I got into tutoring physics and math after seeing how frustrated students were with ineffective teachers and their obscure explanations. For this reason many bright and motivated students find themselves stuck when trying to learn the sciences, feeling helpless to understand the material in front of them. Teaching is first and foremost about communication, followed closely by a mastery of the material.
-Degree in Physics and Theatre from School of Communication, Northwestern University
-3 years as professional full-time tutor for high school, college, and post-baccalaureate students
-Official Physics tutor of the Northwestern University Pre-health Professionals
-10 years experience as an actor, building skills in communication and empathy
I am located in East Lakeview but have a car and am able to travel throughout Chicago and the near suburbs. We could meet up at a coffee shop or I could come to where you live, whichever you prefer. If you are interested in working together, I can be reached either by cell (973-600-0340) or by email (MichaelMedford@gmail.com). I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
HobbiesNot only am I well-versed in math and science with a Physics degree from Northwestern University, but also received a degree in Theatre and am a working actor in the city of Chicago. I am an excellent communicator and love working to customize my teaching to match each student's individual way of learning a subject. Check out some testimonials from satisfied students I've worked with here: http://www.renaissancetutoring.com/testimonials.html
"Michael is a patient tutor - more patient than any teacher I've ever had. I learned so much and in the end, I enjoyed physics and its crazy concepts, and gained a new friend."
"I highly recommend having Michael as a tutor - his energy, interest and knowledge of the material, humor, cheerleader pep talks before exams, and patience were all wrapped into a terrific person to work with. Worth every second and penny!"
Communication is at the forefront of my teaching, with a belief that empathy and creative thinking are what help students learn the most.
