Experience
I am currently a teaching assistant in physics at DePaul U, doing a masters in Astrophysics. I also have a bachelors in Astrophysics from UCLA. I love teaching because I enjoy helping students see connections and feel more confident about the material. I have had a passion for teaching since I was 18, often lecturing in empty rooms, pretending to teach. I have a decade of experience dealing with algebra/calculus etc on a daily basis. As an astrophysicist, I am expected to be very fluent in the language of math, and be able to manipulate it easily I have been learning physics for a decade, five of which I've spent in college/ grad school I do research in astronomy and volunteer at the Adler planetarium. Additionally, I'm certified as an Astronomy Ambassador by the American Astronomical Society, which means I'm good at explaining large and abstract ideas about space, or physics, in simple terms. I am also a teaching assistant at DePaul U, and have been for a year. I teach around 70 life science majors daily, and use techniques of interactive engagement to make them feel more confident in their own ability, as opposed to depending on me to solve the problem. I believe in the techniques of physics education research, that encourages facilitating a student's learning as opposed to just offering an answer. If it helps you in your decision, I have been told by faculty (in the department) that am very good with students.
