Experience

I couldn't have made it through the tougher academic subjects without a little assistance from others to expand my perspectives and approaches. I'm looking forward to playing that role for others-- as someone who completely understands the frustration, anxiety, or pure guts that it takes to overcome and push through! I'm ready to help you work through anything related to communication, writing, reading and comprehension, analysis, vocabulary, grammar, and the multitude of complexities that comprise the social sciences. I'm also happy to teach you meditation tactics to assist with information retaining and stress management as an accredited yoga and meditation teacher. My masters degree examines how systems of power (racism, sexism, classism, colonialism, and more) construct/operate social relations, and on a larger scale via international development programs, international relations, and globalization. Its a handy theoretical background to help with communication and analysis and I'm happy to challenge you to think outside of the box! I've also spent a few years working in Washington, DC at a well-known economic development non-profit where I founded a working group to redesign funding prospects to include more marginalized people. I've designed and implemented a research project to better understand Tibetan women during their exiled Democratic Transition in Northern India, and I've researched drug economics and violence in Central American and the Caribbean, both via my Masters dissertation and through interviews in Guatemala and Haiti.

Hobbies

I've recently moved to Chicago, so discovering new neighborhoods is high on my list! I'm also an avid reader-- short stories, essays, speculative fiction, and international novels. I teach yoga and meditation to inmates at Cook County jail, and I practice a lot, too! I enjoy watching documentaries, attending improv or comedy sets, and love the spoken word poetry and storytelling scenes here in town.
