Private tutor in Chicago, IL
Education
University of Illinois B.A. Spanish Minor in Linguistics Certificate in Translation Studies Cambridge University CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Experience
I have over three years' experience tutoring in various capacities. I've taught small group ESL classes for a local nonprofit, and I've done private lessons with adults and high-schoolers in ESL (both conversational English and TOEFL/other test prep), English literature and grammar, and Spanish (including IB and AP Spanish). Besides those subjects, I'm also pretty knowledgeable about languages in general (I minored in Linguistics and have taken four semesters of German as well as Spanish) and have many years of experience writing and editing high school- and college-level essays. I have always enjoyed learning languages because of all the new experiences and opportunities they give you; I love teaching because it allows me to use my knowledge and experience to help others get the same benefits. Because I know what it's like learning a new language, I am a very patient teacher and I know how to set an appropriate pace and workload to maximize learning.
