Education

I have a MA in Education from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois and I have a BA in Special Education from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. With both degrees, I graduated summa cum laude. I have a standard Illinois teaching certificate with an LBS1 (Learning Behavioral Specialist) endorsement. I have experience as a new teacher mentor and have been trained through New Teacher Network Mentor Academy.

Experience

I have over 20 years of teaching experience and at some point have taught all elementary grade levels. My specialty is teaching students using various methods that adapt to the individual learner. I am familiar with a variety of curriculum such as balanced literacy, reading and writing workshop, Everyday Mathematics, Math Thematics, and Engage NY. I love to teach students - it is my passion and I'm highly effective. For five years I taught a summer graduate course at the University of Chicago's Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP). I have extensive experience writing and conducting professional development for beginning teachers. I use creative methods to teach students and I am able to quickly establish rapport with my students. Currently I teach middle school literacy and mathematics.

Hobbies

I was born and raised in Minnesota and moved here over 20 years ago to teach because I wanted to teach in a system that needed dedicated teachers. I have four children; two are graduated from college, one will be attending Jones College Prep in the fall and my youngest attends Skinner Classical. I love to read, watch sports, enjoy the outdoors and visit museums. I've always loved teaching. I actually started teaching when I was in high school - I taught swimming lessons and I was an algebra peer tutor. I enjoy spending time with my family and learning new things.
