Experience
Adjunct Professor at DePaul Unversity - Fall 2015 - Intermediate Algebra Teaching Assistant - 15 sessions - one hour a week session with students on behalf of teacher - exceptional reviews from both teachers and students Tutor Experience - I spent a quarter working in the tutoring room where I helped two students in particular make it through their statistics class, both with A's. I have tutored several of my students outside of class and helped them understand the material better. Some of my students have continued to seek me out after the class I taught them for help in Pre-Calculus and Calculus. I have also tutored a friend that never thought she could pass a math class and managed to help her go from an F to a B in College Algebra and from an F to a C in Statistics for Nursing majors. I have found that the most difficult part of teaching a full class of students is trying to reach all 40 students in an effective manner. Tutoring offers me the opportunity to understand how an individual student learns and adjust my teaching methods to help that particular student understand the material more effectively. With my diverse background in the creative arts I have been able to expand my vocabulary in mathematics to be able to explain complex concepts in many different ways so as to reach the most amount of students. One of the things I try to talk about when I am tutoring is good study skills and different ways of remembering the mathematics rather than just memorizing formulas and theorems. Understanding that repetition is the key to learning math, I also will repeatedly offer new worksheets and different assignments to help the students build the confidence they need to believe that they can do the math, usually with results that drastically improve their ability to understand the material.

Hobbies
I love the Chicago Blackhawks. I have done many things in my life including spending over a decade of my life shooting and designing firework displays, and running the paint department at a theatrical scenery fabrication company painting 30 x 50 ft backdrops and learning the art of trompe l'oeill and faux finishing as well as carpentry, welding, and upholstery. The range of different skills I have learned throughout my life has helped me see how math affects our daily life and helps me represent new concepts to students using real-life applications. What I want for my personal future is to research fire behavior and find algorithms using mathematics to better explain the way fire behaves and therefore possibly predict its behavior more accurately than we can now. While I am doing my research I would like to help other people see the beauty that I see in math through teaching and tutoring.
