During my four plus years of tutoring math students at Chicago City Colleges, I have learned many things that contribute to being an effective tutor. I have learned rather quickly that every person learns differently. I get to know everyone on a one-on-one basis and work hard to create custom learning plans for each one. I know that math can be intimidating and many students even fear it. One thing that I make sure I do is apply the information in a way that the pupil understands it without becoming overwhelmed. I firmly believe that the things we learn now are building blocks to our future careers. I make sure that my students understand the connections the material has to the real world now, so they are motivated to do their best. I am also sure to teach my pupils that we all stumble in life, but you just need to pick yourself up and keep trying in order to succeed. When I am not tutoring, you can find me in the outdoors doing anything to keep active and also listening to music. I am excited to meet new people and help them build their mathematical skills.
