Experience
In my opinion, the characteristics that make a great teacher are being approachable, teaching enthusiastically, and having patience. These are traits that I possess and seek to pass on to my students, as they will help them throughout life. When I was at college, I remember having a professor who stood out to me. Not only did this professor have a deeper understanding of organic chemistry, but he taught with patience and enthusiasm. Even the most apathetic student would become excited by seeing this professor teach. By watching him, I learned how important it was to establish rapports and build connections with students. As someone who graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a master's degree in chemistry, I have a deep love for teaching science. Science is always changing and building upon itself, thus pushing us to venture onward into new frontiers. After my graduation, I worked for four years in biopharmaceuticals, until I secured a job doing research at a top university. In the research department, I am seen as both a mentor and an expert by my junior members. Through my dedication and enthusiasm, I am able to inspire a new generation of learners to pursue their dreams. With the right environment and push in the right direction, any student can be inspired to learn. While I hold a busy schedule, I am always open to help tutor or mentor on the weekend after 6PM.
