I am an undergraduate student studying Business Administration at the Illinois Institute of Technology. I have worked as a tutor at a Champaign, Illinois elementary school. Of all the subjects I tutor, Math is my favorite. What I like most about Math, especially in teaching it to others, is that there are multiple ways to solve the problems. That is very important when you tutor because it allows you to find the best path to help a student understand the concepts. Unfortunately, some teachers only know one or two ways to teach how to solve a problem, or they are restricted by the amount of time they can spend in the classroom in explaining other ways. While one method may work for the majority of students, it likely will not work for everyone. I have seen this firsthand in a classroom where my fellow students and I all are assigned the same problem, but how we come to the answer looks very different. That's why I think a tutor must find the way that resonates with the student, to give them the best opportunity to apply their own logic. One of my strengths as a tutor is to adapt to the student's learning style and offer multiple methods from which to choose.
