Private tutor in Chicago, IL
University of California Irvine - Bachelors, Drama
My passion for theater began before I even started school, when I would plead with my brother to dress up with me and enter some pretend universe. We became wrapped in those adventures, entirely losing track of time as we immersed ourselves in the worlds we'd created. That interest persisted through elementary school plays and into a more in-depth exploration in high school. In the earliest days, of course, I didn't expect that this childhood passion would fuel my career. However, in high school I began to learn more about the philosophy behind the theater, discovering methods, strategies, and ideas that I would ultimately share with my own students. I continued along this path at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California at Irvine. As I experimented with new aspects of the theater, I developed my own method of acting by combining techniques of various great actors into my own personal system. It was during this process, observing my own teachers, that I discovered a passion for teaching. I realized that one of the most important elements of teaching is simply setting a student in motion. It isn't an educator's job to provide students with one "right" approach, but to expose them to ideas and inspirations that will empower them to find their own "right way." As a tutor, I aim to have the student do most of the talking, making discoveries, and developing processes with minimal prompting from me. I am excited about the opportunity to assist you in honing your own ideas and creating a structure that allows you to express yourself.
