Private tutor in Chicago, IL

Education

I recently graduated from Rutgers University with a Masters of Biomedical Sciences and also have a Bachelor of Science in Biology (cell biology and physiology concentration) from Saint Louis University.

Experience

I have both teaching and tutoring experience at the college and high school levels. My SAT score was 32 and GRE scores were: Verbal Reasoning - 162, Quantitative Reasoning - 156, and Analytical Writing - 4.5. I've taken many courses as a biology and biomedical sciences student that would be very helpful for tutoring in the sciences. These courses include but are not limited to: general biology 1 & 2, anatomy at the undergrad and masters level, physiology 1 & 2 and at the masters level, cell biology 1 & 2 and at the masters level, independent research for two years in undergrad, microbiology, evolutionary biology, immunobiology/virology at undergrad and masters level, nerve cell mechanisms, general psychology, social psychology, and abnormal psychology. I have also taken numerous writing and literature courses during my education which have given me a solid background for tutoring in the writing and literature areas. These include: advanced strategies of rhetoric and writing, women in literature, short fiction, as well as business and professional writing. Teaching and tutoring are my passions and I am looking to gain as much experience with as diverse of a student population as I can. I have taught a biology lab class for two years during my undergraduate education and have tutored in an international student writing center for a year during my undergraduate education. I am currently teaching anatomy and physiology at an area high school. My diverse teaching background allows me to connect easily with any content level and has given me great experience at exploring and teaching subjects at all levels of difficulty.

Hobbies

Hello! Thank you for considering me as your tutor! I am an educator at heart looking to gain more experience with tutoring. I'm extremely interested in all of the life sciences, but my absolute favorite fields are immunology and anatomy. I'm also an avid reader and an outdoor enthusiast. I'm from Kalamazoo, Michigan originally and played tennis and golf in high school and continue to play casually now (though my move to Chicago has made finding golf courses a little more difficult, unfortunately). I'm an extremely organized person and can definitely help you or your student with organizing study schedules or anything else they need help with. I'm very approachable and enjoy working with all types of students, from the extremely interested to extremely frustrated, I enjoy them all! Please let me know if you would like to hear any more about me or my background.
