Experience
I am a tutor with extensive experience studying and teaching math and English. I am currently employed as a drama teacher and stage manager at a theatre. I attended Northwestern University. I am comfortable tutoring students in reading, writing, phonics, literature, grammar and mechanics, pre-algebra, United States history, math, English, and social studies. I am also able to help students edit essays and prepare for standardized tests. I love working at a theatre because the people I work with love to learn. They love to learn about psychology, history, and each other. Whenever we begin working on a new piece, we discover new things about each other and the world around us. I also enjoy tutoring because I enjoy learning about how other people learn. I was able to fit in with the current academic climate, which is focused on completing worksheets and performing well on tests. But I understand that not every student learns that way. In my experience, the aspects of learning I was the most excited about were the things I learned dynamically. I learned the most from teachers who were invested in me as both a student and person, and also invested in the material they were teaching. I feel like I learned more from my experience at the theatre than I ever did from a textbook. In my free time, I enjoy biking, watching BBC dramas, baking, and garage sales.
