Hobbies
I am first and foremost interested in spending time with my family. Whether we take a trip to the movies, go apple-picking, or just have tea in the garden, they're my solid rocks and closest friends. This past weekend, I painted a forest mural in the playroom of my niece and nephew. They're not old enough to appreciate it yet, but I'm hoping that someday they'll thank me! My greatest hobby is filmmaking. I am primarily a writer/director, but have also worked as an animator and editor on the tech-side of things. Throughout college, I have been awarded 3 grants from Northwestern to direct my own creative projects, as well as a large grant from Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, SNL, Veep) to direct an original sitcom pilot. I have also animated for the Oncofertility Consortium, an educational short film on which I collaborated with one of the original Blue's Clues animators. My senior directing thesis will premiere at the Minneapolis Underground Film Festival next week, and I couldn't be more excited! Throughout my childhood and teenage years, music was an enormous part of my life. I played piano for 8 years, and then switched to trumpet later on. In high school, I was part of the marching band, jazz band, and first chair in the wind symphony. I have always loved music and always will, and still pick up my horn from time to time. In my "free" time, or whenever I get the chance, I love to travel. I just returned from Norway, where I visited the site of my bullying prevention research. In a couple of months, I will be visiting my sister who is studying in Hong Kong. I believe that it's important to experience other cultures and societies and absorb what they have to offer.
