I have tutored K-12 students and lower division undergraduate courses for the majority of my college career. I used to work for a tutoring company in Los Angeles and tutored elementary through High School students in all subjects. I focus mainly on math and science courses but I also write well and have experience editing essays and helping students brainstorm ideas for writing assignments. For the maths and sciences, I have found that I most effectively help students when I quiz them to pinpoint gaps in their knowledge and then find ways to help them condense material in a fashion that aids recall on exams. For writing assignments, I emphasize that students make it a goal to make arguments as clear and concise as possible for graders. Thus, I help them locate points in the paper that could be improved on and work with students to research how to strengthen the argument. In the past, I have also tutored elementary- high school students who need a tutor because they are falling behind in class or need extra help in understanding the concepts. If you are not happy with your child's grades, I guarantee I can improve it. I have tutored many students who were in danger of failing their courses. As a result of my help, these students have brought up their letter grades to As and Bs. I also encourage direct communication with teachers and do not mind communicating with the child's teacher to develop a lesson plan and to see what areas and concepts need to be further enforced. Research shows that the best way to learn is by teaching others. I enjoy tutoring because it has helped me in my academic career. Further, I sympathize with students who take courses with faculty that do not put much effort into teaching and thus do not teach effectively. I find it rewarding to help those who do not receive much in-class support.
