Education is something that is very important to me. It can lead to a fulfilling and successful life. I like to teach because of the value of education. I have been a teacher and a learner throughout my lifetime. My experience with education began at the age of 2, when my grandfather started to teach me to read. Ever since then, I have loved to read.I studied English Literature at the University of Illinois for my undergrad. I then went on to get my MA in Literature, also at the University of Illinois. During my time in college, I grew as a person and as a student. I also served as a volunteer, because I feel it's important to give back to others. I worked for AmeriCorps for two years by helping with a Chicago Public Schools program. I think learning comes from more than just reading books and studying. It also comes from life experiences. I chose to spend two and a half years exploring North, South, and Central America. I worked many jobs, including serving as an English as a Second Language instructor. During this time, I also chose to learn Spanish. I now want to give back to those in my area by tutoring. I will work hard to help each student learn and grow and meet his or her goals.
