Experience

I have worked as a tutor in some capacity for a lot of my life! In high school I taught piano lessons and tutored several elementary school students in math and literacy. I also volunteered as a conversation partner for international students at a local university, in order to help them improve their English skills. In college I worked as a peer tutor. After college I got certified in teaching English as a foreign language, and subsequently spent nine months in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, working as an English teacher for Russian and Kyrgyz speaking students. Currently, I work in a social work/adult education center, where I teach classes in life skills, financial literacy, and computer use. I am also currently an ESL tutor at the Jane Addams Resource Center. My students would tell you that I am patient, thorough, and always willing to adapt to suit the individual needs and interests of a particular student. I'm particularly skilled in teaching ESL, reading comprehension, and both academic and creative writing, but I'm also able to teach math up to the high school level. I am passionate about American, English, and Russian literature, and would love to work with students who are struggling with those subjects. Reading and writing are my chief passions, and I love sharing them with others! I also have strong skills in the area of standardized tests. I received a 2400 on the SAT and a 31 on the ACT, and am familiar with the format and content of both tests.

Hobbies

I love Russian history, literature, and culture. I speak Russian at an intermediate level and am always trying to improve! I also enjoy playing the piano (although I'm not as good at it as I once was). I spend most of my spare time reading and writing, and am always happy to share those skills with others.
