Hello, I am a licensed Reading Specialist who has worked as a high school English teacher, an interventionist, a Reading teacher, and a literacy coach over the past 10 years. I have taught students from ages 5 through 21, and have worked with adults of all ages and experience in a professional context. Although I do have some work with my schools throughout the summer, I am looking for families who are in search of a private tutor. I am very passionate about developing critical literacy skills, as well as preparing students with foundational skills to foster success in nurturing a love of reading. While much of my experience is grounded in working with struggling readers or children who are disengaged from the academic process, I am also knowledgeable on preparing learners for the rigorous demands at the highest levels of performance. As you may or may not know, summer slide is a very real side effect of these long months away from the classroom. Inactivity can account for up to 6 months of learning loss. If you are looking for your child to receive private tutoring sessions to increase both skills and engagement in the areas of reading, writing, thinking, test prep, or executive functioning, please contact me. I am open to determining a common meeting place for our sessions or I can come to your home. Rates may range from $50 - $75 per hour based on child's need and our agreement (hourly or up front session commitments are available). 2013-Present Suder Montessori Magnet School (Literacy Coach and Interventionist) • Lead a team of interventionists to provide intensive instruction to struggling readers • Coordinate quarterly F&P benchmark assessments to collect school-wide data, analyze, and implement appropriate instructional adjustments as well as strategize for Tier II and Tier III interventions • Facilitate and participate in monthly professional development, weekly grade-level team meetings, and bi-weekly Instructional Leadership Team meetings • Collaborate with parent-volunteers to provide weekly Library classes • Encouraged parent-education and outreach through two Family Literacy Nights and two Suder Parent Coffee sessions • Implemented Literacy Week to encourage enthusiasm around reading and writing • Created a school-wide writing curriculum 2012-2013 Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy (Reading Teacher and Interventionist) • Used NWEA and F&P assessment results to create differentiated lessons that accommodate students’ targeted needs • Utilized Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI) to deliver Tier II interventions for struggling readers in grades K-2 • Administered various assessments to determine strengths and areas for growth; Phonological Awareness Screener for Intervention (PASI), Running Records, Letter-Sound Recognition Assessment, and Reading Interest Inventories • Participated in weekly grade-level meetings for professional development, collaborative planning, and data analysis • Supervised student behavior and coordinated activities for recess • Contributed as a member of the RtI Committee Face To Face Academy (English Teacher and Literacy Coach) • Created a course (Art & Literature) to implement a cross-curricular unit for English, History, and Art, with a culminating project of creating a graphic novel • Taught within an extraordinarily multicultural and ethnically diverse student demographic • Conducted observations, 1-on-1 planning sessions, and whole group workshops to promote literacy across the curriculum with a focus on text-selection, explicit strategy instruction, and learner assessments • Collaborated with the Academic Director to create a future professional development plan with resources and a measurement system 2006-2012 Community Youth Development Institute (Full-time English Teacher and Literacy Coach) • Facilitate and organize professional development • Develop and plan content-wide literacy strategies to promote literacy throughout the school • Created and implemented an inquiry-based curriculum • Familiar and a proponent of project-based learning • Efficient in block scheduling • Designed curriculum based on standards and aligned to assessment based on Bloom’s Taxonomy • Created and ran an after-school program called the Pool Hustler’s Club since 2008 • Collaborated with DePaul University and University of Illinois at Chicago to implement sentence writing strategies and conduct a design project to implement a peer mediation program to deal with violence and behavior issues. • High risk student population with various levels of reading (1st grade – 12th grade) • Have done co-teaching and team-teaching • Completed a case study using BRI and interventions for a 3rd grade reading level 19 year old
