Experience
Serving as an AVID tutor in high school and teaching an ESL class after my undergraduate work at Cornell University prepared me for the world of tutoring. As a second-year law student at the University of Chicago, I work with a group called Lawyers in the Classroom. I've also taught Spanish. As a tutor, I encourage students to spot their own erroneous assumptions by taking the time to double check their work as well as to think through those assumptions. In fact, helping students rely on reason to reach conclusions on their own comprises the basic core of my classroom philosophy. I stress to my students that I always listen to their ideas and conclusions, and that works better for them than just providing the answers.Besides working as a tutor, I'm also a classically trained singer that feels at ease performing a cappella. I have run a marathon and like to stay fit via regular running. Hitting the pavement definitely keeps me busy in the kitchen with cooking. One of my favorite things to do is burn energy by getting my feet up to speed before trying out some new recipes. Having fun helps me stay focused on my students.
