Experience

I am a University of Oxford (UK) graduate student and University of Michigan medical student and have scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT and 98th percentile on the SAT. I will finish my Master's degree at Oxford in August of 2015 and my medical degree at Michigan in May of 2016. As an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame (where I graduated with honors), I studied physics, chemistry, and math all at a high level. I spent a year as a middle school and high school science teacher before beginning medical school. Part of my duties included working with students one-on-one and in very small group settings to help keep them on track. Over the years I have also worked as a science tutor for college students. Students and I work together to identify areas of particular difficulty. Then, in my teaching I focus on presenting fundamental concepts in creative ways as I believe this foundation is essential in order to master a subject. We then work through problems to apply these concepts and enhance problem-solving skills. There are few things I enjoy more than watching students overcome obstacles, improve, and gain confidence in their academic abilities.

Hobbies

I spend a good deal of my time reading great novels as well as books and articles in other areas that I find interesting (political philosophy, ethics, sociology, etc.). As an undergraduate and again as a medical student I spent summers working in Uganda on medical projects, including one summer doing HIV/AIDS research. I also enjoy traveling and have visited over 20 countries. Last Spring I completed a backpacking trip across Europe that included stops in England, Scotland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Italy. For exercise I enjoy rowing - a hobby I picked up while studying at Oxford. I also enjoy hiking, having recently finished a 500km hike on the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
