Tutoring Experience: - Taught Japanese to students ranging 6th-12th grades, peer tutor throughout college. - Tutored my Japanese host mom in English and French. - Taught at Concordia College's Japanese language immersion summer camp 2009-2010 - Study abroad in Kyoto, Japan at Doshisha University, 2011-12 Testing Scores: - SAT Scores: Writing 770, Reading 800, Math 680 - AP Scores: AP English Language/Literature: 5, AP French: 5 Relevant Classes: - Japanese: 3 years in high school, 3 years in college, & 1 year of intensive language study in Kyoto, Japan. - French: 6 years in high school - Writing: 4.0 avg in English classes throughout college, including playwriting and TV writing. Other Items: - First place in Southern Regional Japanese Speech Competition, Level 2 - Asked to be a writing fellow at my campus' writing center (I had to decline in order to go to Kyoto). - Wrote a 50-page honors thesis [ https://dspace.sewanee.edu/handle/11005/3609 ] focused on contemporary Japanese language and culture. - Why do I want to be a tutor? I love sharing language and culture with others, whether they're younger kiddos, people my age, or older folks. Opening up people to the experiences of another culture, another land, is one of the coolest things about being a tutor.
