Hobbies
I will begin medical school in the fall of 2015. Until then, my schedule will be extremely flexible. I will be teaching younger children part-time through an early childhood learning program, as well as will continue to work in research part-time at Northwestern University. My past research, at both UW-Madison and Northwestern University, has led to multiple poster presentations, abstracts, and ongoing manuscript submissions. Through my research, I have worked with sensitive patient populations, including cancer and transplant patients, which has enhanced my interpersonal communication skills and taught me the importance of being both empathetic and patient, in all aspects of my life. Outside of academics, I am passionate about traveling and have traveled to all seven continents. I also enjoy writing and poetry, and other creative endeavors/projects. I grew up with four sisters and have worked as an overnight summer camp counselor for years, so I have extensive experience working with different personalities and connecting to people in ways that are best suited for their individual needs. I understand the importance of teaching students in a learning style that will allow them to learn to the best of their abilities. Everyone has stronger and weaker subjects, and I have utilized multiple test-taking and study strategies in order to improve my weaker areas, so I believe I can be helpful to individuals who are struggling in their study and work habits, in addition to helping them in terms of actual content of the material. Lastly, I am dedicated to helping my students succeed and am more than happy to take time outside of our tutoring sessions to go over material myself (prior to meeting) or to come up with alternative ways (analogies, games, mnemonics, diagrams, worksheets, etc.) to teach the material if current methods are not working or making sense. Depending on the subject or test, I may also have books and other materials of my own, which my students would have access to.
