I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree from Kalamazoo College and a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lehman College. At the present time, I'm enrolled in a master's level program in social work at the University of Chicago. During the past 10 years, I've been employed as a primary grade school teacher and coach in New York public and charter schools. In my current role, I work with both general education and special needs students. Currently, I manage a tutoring program in which I coach tutors to help their pupils master standardized test taking, and reading and math at their grade level. I've taught diverse subjects but especially enjoy assisting struggling readers. I especially love to make test prep more engaging and enjoyable. Personalizing lessons in keeping with a student's interests and learning process are tasks I really enjoy. To customize my lessons, I work hard at analyzing the way students respond and perform so that I can identify low and high levels of mastery. I believe that every child has the ability to learn regardless of personal learning challenges and I strive hard to ensure academic progress via an instilled passion for learning and personal confidence.
