I have a master's degree in Education from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in History and Spanish from Columbia University. I am an experienced classroom teacher with Illinois certification for teaching elementary and middle school. I have worked with many different types of students and have plenty of methods and materials for helping students in any basic subjects up through 9th grade. I am also qualified to tutor older students at higher levels of Spanish and History, and my strong academic and writing background allow me to tutor writing at any level.My tutoring philosophy focuses on true progress rather than completing homework or passing tests. First, I find out what problems the student is facing and explain difficult concepts. At the same time, I evaluate what the student hasn't mastered at school, and choose the best method to cover the core areas. Finally, I work with the student to build general skills that apply to school and testing. My goal is for students to delve deep into the subject and internalize the thinking process so they can independently solve problems on their own - and to have fun doing it.I like to relax by dancing, playing the piano, drawing, and painting.
