Experience

Freshman Mentor August 2008 – May 2010 Freshman mentors are upperclassmen who volunteer to assist incoming freshmen with adjusting to high school. Mentors are held to a strict code of behavior and ethics to maintain professionalism. • Worked with 5 students per academic year. • Participated in 4 face-to-face meetings each week. • Completed team and character building exercises each week. • Tutored in a variety of subjects as needed. Through this program I came to understand my true ability as a tutor. After a rough adjustment to high school I gained a genuine desire to help others have a better experience. I discovered that the secret to effective tutoring is patience. Understanding the student's learning style is crucial as well. My final ACT score was a 33 and I scored well on the SAT and subject tests.
