Private tutor in Chicago, IL
University of Louisville - BA, Humanities , University of Chicago - MA, Humanities
I attended the University of Chicago and earned an M.A. in Humanities with a concentration in Cinema and Media Studies. I also hold a B.A. in Humanities with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Louisville. I have a wide range of academic passions, including French, Philosophy, Math, and Physics. While earning my degrees, I chose to pursue the Humanities because it allowed for an interdisciplinary approach to the subjects I would study. A defining characteristic of my approach to learning and teaching is my belief that any subject is within reach for any student. The key is to translate and boil down the difficult terminology to come to a point of understanding and clarity about the topic at hand. The subjects that I am most devoted to teaching includes the Arts (particularly Literature), French language and culture, and pure Mathematics (a subject I feel allows for greater freedom with numbers than applied Math subjects). I also greatly enjoy tutoring in standardized test preparation. Students are often confused by complicated test questions, and I have found that the most effective approach to this is to teach how the concepts that underlie the problem work together. This enables the student to learn how to solve problems using the methodology that works best for them. As evidenced by my academic studies, I am a fervent lover of film and often can be found watching movies in my spare time.
