Private tutor in Chicago, IL
Education
University of Oregon - BA, French , Northwestern University - PhD, Linguistics
Experience
I am a linguistics instructor for graduate and undergrad students at Northeastern Illinois University. I studied at Northwestern University and the University of Oregon, and in subsequent roles as an instructor or tutor, I strived to present subject matter in clear and understandable ways, and then encourage students to analyze a problem and filter potential solutions. I have a very strong interest in linguistics and language in general, and have been fortunate to work with a dynamic range of students from children to adults and native and nonnative speakers, teaching foreign language courses, mathematics concepts, and improving English speaking fluency. I maintain a dedicated approach to seeing all students through to their educational goals, utilizing an engaging and open approach to my teaching to help students identify, assess, and overcome obstacles. I relied on similar methods through my own tutors to help understand difficult topics and look forward to passing on that knowledge. My hobbies and interests include running and cycling, as well as astronomy, history, nature, and Shakespeare.
