Experience
My teaching philosophy follows this quote by Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." I have been tutoring my fellow students since I was I in the eighth grade and volunteer regularly with such non-profit organizations such as 826 Chicago. These past experiences have allowed me to work with a diverse population of students and from theses past experiences. I believe the best way to guide a student is to be as hands-on as possible. "Wouldn't it be more effective to give the student a printed-out packet or have them take notes on a lecture?" well, yes, but is this the best way to teach a student? No. 1) These methods can be boring. It is very hard to learn when you're bored. 2) The brain is an eccentric learning machine that thrives on variety. I strive to build variety into each lesson. The best feeling for me is when is when my students grades and confidence rise as they become independent learners and thinkers.
