Education

University of Missouri, BA, History/English, Cum Laude, 1979 National Louis University, MA Education, 1994, Endorsed in LA, Social Studies, Science and Math. Extensive Post Graduate work at Loyola, The University of Chicago, The University of Illinois and Aurora University.

Experience

Private tutoring: Math, writing, science projects and research papers, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Am experienced in working with students who need organizational and time management skills and diverse learners. I am also available to home school during the day for students that are unable to go to school due to accident, illness or other emergencies. My experience as an elementary school teacher enables me to offer teaching in all core subjects to home bound children. I offer consultation with your child's teacher so that my teaching aligns with your child's regular classroom instruction and activities. I am a 20 veteran teacher of the Chicago Publish schools. I have run a science lab and have been a math and science coach for teachers in grades pre-K through 8th. Currently, I am an adjunct professor at National Louis University in the Elementary Education Department. I would like to tutor to add to my one on one interaction and instruction of students. The students enjoy my sense of humor, the thrill we both get from that "aha" moment when a student truly understands a concept, my caring and nurturing nature. I have a unique talent for understanding students' learning challenges and present multiple ways for students to grasp the subject matter. I do not give up and I make sure my students don't either. I have also volunteered as a reading and writing instructor for non-functional adult readers at the Literacy Volunteers of Chicago. I am also a court appointed advocate for refugee children.

Hobbies

I am married and live in the Chicago East Village/West Town area. I am an avid reader and love fiction. I can really get lost in a good story; however, I read tons of non-fiction also as I am always interested in learning more. There is never enough time for learning in my opinion. I scuba dive and snow ski. I love traveling and have traveled extensively and sometimes rough, through Europe, Eastern Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central American and South America as well as much of the United States. I practice yoga and meditation and have used both in my teaching practice. I am an avid gardener and grow lots or organic vegetables and beautiful flowers. Summer is my favorite season. I have two rescue dogs which I have raised and trained from puppies. They love to swim and we enjoy watching them retrieve at the dog beach. I have done volunteer work with animal rescue and have participated in many adoption events.
