Northwestern University (Bachelor of Science) London School of Economics (Masters of Science) Candidate for Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University.

I enjoy working with people and have tutored students from at the 1st grade level on up. My teaching philosophy is to relate the material to the student's personal life when possible to help make the material more personally applicable. I also focus on helping the student understand the thinking behind why, for example, a formula is used for a particular problem, rather than simply memorizing. For standardized exams, I can help by working on speed with mental math drills and math tricks. With languages, I believe in the immersive language experience, because that is what I have found to work well for me when I have tried learning foreign languages. An immersive language approach to learning would focus on conversation to help internalize grammatical rules and vocabulary, instead of focusing on the memorization of vocabulary lists and grammar rules. With computer skills, I am extremely patient in helping the student develop a comfort level with using new electronic tools. Due to my business consulting background, I am highly proficient in Microsoft Office software such as Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and Word. A true testament to my computer teaching skills is the fact that after training with me, my 50+ year old mom now teaches computer skills classes at her local library! I am comfortable tutoring in-person or online via Skype. For those of you looking to increase your standardized test scores, here is some information about my own performance that might help you decide whether I am a good fit to help you increase your scores: My AP scores in high school for Biology, Statistics and Calculus were 5. I scored in the top 90th percentile for the ACT, SAT I, and the SAT II subject tests in Biology, Physics, Math IIC, and Writing. I also scored in the top 90th percentile on the GRE. Finally, I am happy to help with college and job applications by reviewing essays and resumes, and conducting mock-interviews.
