I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Valparaiso University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I will be attending the University of Chicago in the fall for a Master's in public policy where I hope to focus on education. I believe strongly in the importance of accessible and affordable education and wish to pursue it as a career.
Experience
I have tutored students in physics, calculus, algebra, geometry and math as a private tutor for the last 2 years. Before I began as a private tutor I tutored friends and was a tutor for the National Honors Society in High School. I love working with students and seeing them understand a subject they previously did not. Often students are missing a few pieces of information that keeps them from succeeding. My job has a tutor is to figure out what these pieces of information are and to correct it. I have completed my degree in mechanical engineering which includes courses such as Calculus I,II,II, statistics, and differential equations. I have tutored (and taken) Algebra 1, Algebra II, Trig, Geometry, precalc, calc 1 (AB), Calc 2 (BC), AP physics mechanics. I got a super score of 32 on my ACT and a Math score of 33 twice. I scored a 5 on the AP Calc AB test and a 163 on my GRE quantitative. I know and love math and science and would like nothing more than to help a struggling student understand a subject that I am so passionate about.
