Private tutor in Chicago, IL
Education
B.A. in Russian Language and Literature; Studio Art (with honors) from Mount Holyoke College M.A. in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (in progress)
Experience
I am currently seeking my Masters in Visual and Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, which I expect to complete alongside a thesis in December of 2014. I have just been hired as a teaching assistant for the freshman seminar in writing/research. I plan to continue on to a PhD program in Media and Cultural Theory with the eventual aim of teaching in a college or university setting. My recent work includes comparative approaches to fictive and factual television, film and psychoanalysis, and critical internet/social media studies. Though my focus is primarily an academic approach to reading media in culture, my undergraduate education and current program have provided me with strong background in both theoretical and practical realms of my discipline. Given my background, I am confident in my ability to employ successful approaches to teaching expository writing to high school and college students. My interest in tutoring lies primarily in my desire to work with students on developing creative approaches to thinking critically, and articulating critical thought for academic purposes.
