--I graduated with honors as an English and American Literature undergraduate major from NYU (New York University) with a GPA of 3.76. --I completed my Master's of Education from St. Joseph's University, and earned a GPA of 3.83.
Experience
Previous Experience: I will be entering my third year teaching 8th, 9th, and 11th grade English at a private school in Chicago well-known and reputed for its 100% college acceptance rate as well as its consistently high test scores.I am adept at differentiating for student need and planning lessons that provide not only an understanding of a particular text, but also strategies that are applicable beyond the particular lesson. This way, students learn to become more independent and self-directed in their learning. -Prior to my current position, I completed my student teaching semester where I taught 11th and 12th grade English at various levels. Students were in the throes of test prep during this time so I gained extensive experience preparing and implementing lessons around the ACT. I have also worked in NYC with 9th and 10th grade students preparing for the state standardized exam. Test Scores: I scored a 5 on both the AP Language and AP Literature exams. I most recently scored a 197 on the Praxis, earning a certificate of high achievement. Why I Want to Tutor: I have always been passionate about reading and writing, and I believe wholeheartedly in the academic and personal rewards that these subjects can bring. I just finished student teaching and already miss working with students to increase both their skills and interest in English. I would love to help you achieve your goals, and promise to be an enthusiastic and encouraging tutor who takes the time to prepare sessions just for you.
