Education

I graduated magna cum laude (3.82 GPA) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, and a minor in Biology from Northeastern Illinois University. I focused my studies on foundational and biological sciences.

Experience

I started tutoring in 2015 and spent 3 years working with the Peer-Lead Team Learning International Society program facilitating weekly seminars and exam reviews, tutoring, and mentoring over 200 university students enrolled in General, Organic, and Physical Chemistry courses. I have 5 years of tutoring experience in high school and college-level Chemistry courses, and I specialize in Organic Chemistry. I am comfortable working with groups and individual students, providing online and in-person lessons, and working with students with learning disabilities. Additionally, I coauthored a Peer-Led Team Learning workbook for Organic Chemistry seminars in collaboration with other peer leaders and faculty. The workbook is published and now used in Organic Chemistry seminars at PLTLIS participating institutions across the nation. I am an aspiring medical student in my gap year. While I am making my dream come true, I would love to use my knowledge, skills, and experience to help other students excel in their academic pursuits. As a student myself, I know how science courses are often seen as challenging, intimidating, or even weed-out courses, and I am extremely passionate about helping my students overcome the difficulties they might have with the subject, helping them succeed in their academic careers and gain the confidence in their knowledge and skills. I tailor my lessons and provide a personalized approach based on individual student’s needs, class curriculum, learning style, and level of knowledge. I engage my students in active learning and focus on helping them understand the concepts and develop critical thinking. I help my students establish effective study habits applicable to any science classes and beyond. I share my experiences and make myself available as a resource, which allows me to establish a comfortable, trusting environment where my students are not afraid to think freely, engage in discussions, and ask questions.
