Education

I completed my bachelor's degree in religious studies in 2013 at St. Norbert College and my master's degree in religious studies in 2015 at the University of Chicago Divinity School. I will begin doctoral studies in theology at Loyola University Chicago in fall 2020. I have also completed coursework in Spanish, Philosophy, and graduate level theology beyond my master's degree. This coursework was done at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

Experience

Every student has the capacity to succeed. Several years ago I was tutoring a 1st year undergraduate student taking an Introduction to the Bible course. As much as I thought he was learning something in our sessions together, he would come back with less than satisfactory grades. I went to speak with his professor, who told me that he's just not college material. There is no doubt in my mind that he knew what she thought of him, that she had no confidence in his ability to succeed in her class or as a college student. Taken aback at her response, I quickly reevaluated my approach to my time with this student. What this student needed was the affirmation of his experience: the subject matter is, in fact, difficult and his experience of this is not unique. Most importantly, I needed to find a way to show him his ability to do the work--no doubt a difficult task when the instructor didn't believe in him. I always begin with this affirmation: you can succeed. It may take time, it will take work, but no one has the right tell you otherwise. My expertise is in academic writing, particularly in the fields of history, theology, religious studies, and philosophy. I have several years experience studying Latin, with formal undergraduate and graduate coursework as well as self-study.

Hobbies

I enjoy reading and writing, of course. In addition, I am a big fan of the Zelda video game series as well as city simulation games for the computer. As a lover of coffee, I can regularly be found working or talking with friends at local coffee shops. I also enjoy cooking and baking when I can fit it into my schedule.
