Experience
I have been a high school English teacher for 5 years in Chicago Public Schools. Before teaching I worked in advertising while still living in California. I had the opportunity to be a clinician at Lindamood Bell Learning processes for three consecutive summers where I learned a highly effective system for building decoding and comprehension skills. I have also been taking on private 1 on 1 tutoring clients through various services for the past 3 years. I tutor because it allows me to enjoy the process of teaching and learning without the struggles that accompany a public school setting. As a tutor my best results have been with 2nd through 5th grade students working on a mix of math, reading and writing. My tutoring students see strong gains in their school work and, most importantly, build confidence in their academic abilities.

Hobbies
I love learning and I love teaching. I firmly believe that life is better if you are constantly learning something and finding ways to push yourself. Creativity is what drives me so I spend a lot of time on wheel throwing, upcycling DIY projects, sewing, photography and, lately, reading a lot of non-fiction. I enjoy being outside whenever possible, hiking, kayaking, or taking photographs. I can relate to students who struggle to sit still in class; I feel the same and I want to be moving or somehow physically involved in whatever I do or learn.
