I'm currently a Masters student at Loyola University Chicago for Infectious Disease and Immunology. I study viruses and how they interact with the immune system and how we can fight them. The lab I work in concentrates on finding new antiviral drugs along with finding mutations that cause the virus to be more easily attacked by the body. I graduated from Iowa State University with a dual degree in Microbiology and Genetics. At Iowa State I did research on corn genetics and making new plants that were more resistant to bacteria and tough conditions such as drought by using the plants own genes and defenses.
Experience
I've volunteered at elementary schools during undergraduate where I taught kids about bacteria, viruses, and genetics. I also ran the high school workshop for my microbiology club where I taught teenage kids how to do basic lab work in an effort to increase STEM participation at a college level. ACT: 30 GRE: Verbal Reasoning - 78 percentile, Quantitative Reasoning - 64 percentile, Analytical Writing - 93 percentile I hope to tutor so I can gain more experience in teaching because I wish to pursue a PhD program after I finish my Masters degree. Also, the money would greatly benefit me, as I'm a broke graduate student.
