Haverford College - Bachelors, East Asian Languages and Culture
I earned my bachelor's degree in East Asian Languages (with a minor in Chinese) from Haverford College. Now, as I consider going to graduate school in China, I am enjoying the opportunity to tutor students in math and in Chinese. I also help students prepare for standardized exams like the SAT, among others. I first tutored students when I was in high school, and my math teacher asked me to help a few students with trig and algebra 2. I loved it, they did much better in their classes, and a lifelong love of tutoring was born. I continued tutoring in college, mainly helping fellow students who were having a rough time in Chinese. I would conduct conversations with them, and present them with a variety of techniques for learning the language. I encouraged them that while it can seem really intimidating, it's not as hard as they may think. Mandarin is my favorite tutoring subject, as I love the beauty of the language, and also gain satisfaction teaching it. I especially enjoy exposing my students to humor in this other language, which can be a great way to learn it, as it keeps my students engaged and interested.
