University of Washington-Seattle Campus - Bachelors, Medical Anthropology and Global Health Minor: Microbiology , Midwestern University - Current Grad Student, Masters of Arts in Biomedical Sciences
I studied at the University of Washington for my undergrad years, using various courses to learn about the foundations of science, medical anthropology, and global health. These studies led me to understand connections between an individual's health and the world society has created around them. While I was attending this university, I also tutored students in a high school made up of immigrants and refugees. I tutored many of the students in science, and also many in English as a second language. The thing I learned during that experience that has continued to apply to tutoring relationships is that it is necessary for me to adjust my methods and techniques of teaching based on what each individual student's needs to learn best. I created materials that I couldn't find to make sure my students have what they needed to learn. Working with students who came from a variety of backgrounds and cultures gave me a heightened sensitivity to getting to know each student individually, and to be flexible enough to work with any student, of any background, with any set of strengths, abilities, and challenges. I'm very dedicated to my students. Outside of education, I also love dancing, kickboxing, and cooking.
