Addie B.
Private tutor in Chicago, IL
Education
The University of Iowa - BA, English and Creative Writing. Certificate, Entrepreneurial Management. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA in my major. I was an honors student, a writer for The Daily Iowan (our student-run newspaper), and an editorial assistant at the Iowa Review, one of the nation's most prestigious literary magazines.
Experience
I have tutored many students in English, Reading, and Writing ACT prep. Perhaps my greatest success was helping to raise the composite ACT score of a student from 17 to 25 after just two months of working on only the English section of the exam. I have a score of 36 in both the English and Reading portions of the exam, and a composite score of 33. However, I do only teach English, Reading, and Writing, as science and math were not my stronger suits on the exam. I have also tutored students in a variety of non-ACT related subjects, including AP Literature, AP Psychology, beginner French, essay-writing, creative writing, and more. I particularly love to teach the art of creative writing. I currently work as the Training Manager at Valnet, Inc., a Canadian media conglomerate. I live in Chicago and work remotely, and am open to remote or in-person sessions.

Hobbies
I'm a very serious creative writer in my free time! I'm currently working on a number of short stories as well as my second novel. I have a few literary publications under my belt in various journals. My forte is fiction and creative non-fiction. I'm also a lover of nature, travel, antiquing, and Italian food, and especially enjoy sharing these passions with family and friends. I consider myself someone who can easily connect with people, as well as someone who can teach from multiple perspectives and methods, should a student need alternative approaches to understanding the material.
