Experience
I am a tutor who truly believes that providing education can stimulate social change in the future. As a result, I encourage students to explore their own interests when learning, as this helps them to construct their own knowledge. In addition, I believe that having students think critically about their own work helps them to relate to it and, therefore, better prepares them for exams. My approach to tutoring centers around the needs of the student. I never lecture students the way a teacher would, as I feel that a more personal approach works much better. Before becoming a tutor, I attended Oberlin College, where I was a double major in English and ancient Latin. During my time there, I worked with a number of educational outreach programs doing things like teaching students between grades 3 and 5, acting as a literacy tutor for younger children, and mentoring students between grades 5 and 12. I have also worked as a private tutor in Latin and math and acted as a tutoring coordinator in Ohio. During my time as a coordinator, I was responsible for training and placing math tutors in local schools. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy reading, exploring, gardening, and traveling.
