Experience

I decided from a young age that I would be a professor in college - a teacher - in the future. Having struggled with certain subjects and standardized tests since elementary school, I know what tutees are going through. But, I wouldn't be where I am today, pursuing a degree in bioengineering, if I hadn't accumulated a set of tricks and techniques to help me understand dense material. With my experience in tutoring and my enthusiasm and willingness to help others, I believe that I can offer the experience that tutees need to not only obtain the knowledge and succeed in school, but also learn to become tutors themselves. Below are some of my experiences as a tutor, extra background, and qualifications . June 2015 - May 2016 (Tutor at Atlas Tutors http://learnwithatlas.com/home.html) Tutored students in SAT and ACT. Atlas Tutors is an SAT and ACT prep service run entirely by students. All of the tutors are chosen based on their personalities, high standardized test scores, and - most importantly - their ability to share their knowledge with others. August 2014 - May 2016 (IMSA Writing Center Tutor) Tutored students with their writings in all subjects. Only 2% of students were qualified to be a writing center tutor. August 2013 - May 2014 (Peer Tutor) Tutored in math, chemistry, physics, and Japanese. Peer Tutors demonstrate academic excellence and provide service to the IMSA community by tutoring IMSA students in need of academic assistance. June 2013 - July 2013 (Teaching Assistant for Summer Chinese StarTalk Program at North Central College) Prepared lecture materials and classroom worksheets in Chinese to assist a professor in the Language Department for the StarTalk program - Presidential Initiative to Fund Summer Programs in Critical Languages Other Experiences August 2015 - May 2016 (Community Developer - CD) Responsible for leading and developing activities to enrich the residential life. There are two CDs in a residential hall of 96 students. August 2015 - May 2016 (Co-President of Asian Students in America - ASIA) Responsible for leading, coordinating, and executing social activities to represent and showcase Asian culture. ASIA is also the largest culture club at IMSA. June 2015 - August 2015 (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) Conducted experimental research on the quench degradation limits of superconducting materials. Created a poster for the findings and presented at the Cryogenic Engineering Conference/International Cryogenic Materials Conference. September 2014 - April 2015 (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine) Conducted correlation analysis on Alzheimer’s Disease transgenic mice and their behaviors. Wrote a project report titled: “Correlation of Memory Dysfunction and Aβ Oligomer Build-Up in an Alzheimer’s Disease Transgenic Mouse Model” and gave a presentation of my findings at IMSAloquium. May 2014 - July 2014 (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Research Internship) Extracted data from whiplash patient’s MRI scans of the neck and analyzed the data using MatLab. Classes Taken in High School Geometry (8th grade), Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, BC Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Theory of Analysis (Collegiate level theoretical math class), Discrete Mathematics, Physics: Calculus-based Electricity & Magnetism, Organic Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, AP Literature and AP Language equivalent courses (IMSA does not offer AP classes but instead offers classes that teach the same curriculum but not for the purpose of taking the AP Exams) Test Scores ACT Composite 35 ACT English - 35 ACT Mathematics - 35 ACT Writing - 34 ACT Science - 34 Essay - 10 SAT Math II - 800 SAT Physics - 720

Hobbies

I am a constantly active person -- you'll often find me outside reading, playing football, or taking a much-needed nap in a warm spot of sunlight. I am an empathetic person and I will do whatever I can to help others. I am a music-addict -- I am always trying to expand my musical sphere. While I do listen to a lot of music, I also play my own music as I've been a pianist of 12 years. If asked the generic question - what three adjectives would your friends describe you as - I'd respond with genuine, enthusiastic, and athletic.
