Experience
I attended Oberlin College, where I have tutored for the past two years. I also tutored as a high school student. I enjoy figuring out how things work and then passing that information along. I love forming connections between newly learned information and what has already been learned in the past. I believe that when connections are found, the student naturally becomes more involved and curious about the subject. I love to cook, and it is one of my greatest hobbies. I use the topic of cooking to help me teach Biology, Botany, Ethics, Chemistry, Sustainability, History, Language, and much more. I find this method to be very effective, easily adaptable, and very entertaining for my students and myself. I believe it helps the students retain information and creates an environment that is enjoyable. I try to teach my students the skills and strategies that they will need to do well on standardized tests, by helping them see the patterns and rules that the tests follow. I believe that learning about these patterns and having the student involved in asking questions will lead to success, more so than just memorizing answers to the exam. Knowing these tricks will help the students do well on the tests, which will, in turn, open up many opportunities for them in the educational world.
