Experience
I find that the best way to approach teaching is to try to connect and communicate with the student in a meaningful way. I hold a bachelor's degree with double majors in English and Spanish with a minor in Psychology from Lawrence University, where I also earned a teaching certification after spending an additional year studying Education. I spent a semester student teaching Communication Arts and Creative Writing. I was then been hired as a 5th grade teacher, and during the next two years at the same school, I taught Writing, Language Arts, and Reading to students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. I specialize in helping students in the areas of public speaking, literature, grammar and mechanics, reading comprehension, fluency, writing skills, and I am also proficient at helping students to write and edit essays. In addition, I have had great success in helping my students prepare for tests like the ACT by utilizing a variety of study skills that have been proven to increase test scores exponentially. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, practicing yoga, painting, shopping, and playing with my puppy.
