Hobbies

In the world of education, nothing is more rewarding than when a difficult concept finally "clicks" with a student. I've been fortunate enough to have teachers who helped science, math, and languages "click" for me. I'd like to give back and do the same. Science and math are typically subjects from which most students shy away. This tendency is a detriment to our society. As a scientist with an ability to communicate clearly to non-scientists, I feel that it's my duty to help increase scientific literacy and overall comfort with science. Additionally, I feel very strongly about encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in STEM. One way to do this is to help them excel in their classes. I'm also an executive board member for the Chicago chapter of the Association for Women In Science (AWIS Chicago). As for hobbies, I am fascinated by other cultures. As such, I enjoy traveling, learning languages, and listening to music from around the world. I play several instruments and enjoy the art of movement.
