Experience

Hi, I'm Matthew. I've been playing the guitar for over a decade. I am currently attending Columbia College for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition. I earned an associate degree in Music, and have taught classes for the last 5 years, both at my residence and at music shops. I specialize in classical, fingerstyle (including folk, blues, and jazz), and electric guitar. I've taught a wide variety of students, from young to old, beginner through advanced. In my classes, students are taught a broad spectrum of useful skills, including understanding sheet music, learning to improvise, the foundations of good form, and tips for performing. I have many years of performance knowledge to draw upon, and I love to help my pupils further develop their playing. My classes are perfect for hobbyist or professional players. I believe in helping students to reach their goals while having a good time. Setting goals that are realistic and reachable is just as important as enjoying the time spent reaching them. Students are taught to understand pieces inside and out, so they're able to continue using them after our sessions are finished. In my personal time, I enjoy travelling, riding my bike, and working in the garden.
