Experience

I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a PhD in English and a concentration in Women's and Gender Studies. I am particularly interested in American literature (20th and 21st Century), ethnic literature, and cultural studies.I taught at the University of Nebraska for twelve years, mostly courses in English composition and literature. I also tutored students at the local community college in writing, which was a very enjoyable experience because I was able to work with students of all ages, ranging from 17 to 70.I tutor students in many different subjects, but I love teaching writing and literature the most. Many students seem to be scared of writing because they believe that they aren't good writers, and I enjoy changing their mindsets. Writing is art, a way that people express themselves and understand the world. I have been able to help students understand this by reminding them to take it one word at a time.I try my best to accommodate my students and meet them wherever they are in their education. The best learning happens when tutoring sessions don't feel like school, when we are able to talk casually about what we are working on and still get a lot done. In my free time I like yoga, biking, and playing with my dogs.
