Education

Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA), BFA in English Literature with a minor in Creative Writing (Fiction), 2003-2007. School at the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL), MFA in Writing, August 2013-present (expected graduation in May of 2015).

Experience

Experience creating curriculum and teaching children (of various ages) at a summer camp--Adler Planetarium, UNC. Further experience teaching adults with developmental disabilities (ages 18-90) in a workshop setting: everything from basic life skills to reading skills. I also wrote a play with a class of 30 students. Teaching has always been a great passion, and pleasure for me. The moment when a light turns on, and the student begins to learn in a way that is best for them, is one of the most rewarding experiences that I've had in my past work experience. I also find it integral, with the structure of most current schools, that students receive the attention and help that they need (and deserve) to reach their potential. In addition to my teaching experience, I have also had several short stories published in small literary magazines (Dickinson Review, Coq & Bull Press. I worked with a small theater company for two years, and wrote the book section for Chicagoist.com for an additional one.

Hobbies

My interests include everything from theater to football. I love going to museums: art, history, science, etc. I'm very easily amused and a generally positive person, which makes it quite easy for me to relate to young adults and children. Animals have close place in my heart, as I grew up with dogs (and was a dog walker for about three years), and currently have a cat named Emmie Lou. My other interests include art, dance, music, and film. I'm generally a pretty creative and art fueled individual, but have a solid academic background.
